The Naysayers of Art – Pigment Paintings

Art of painting is a practice of applying paint to a bare surface, usually with a brush. The paint is usually applied on the foundation with a brush, although other implements, including sponges, knives, and airbrushing tools, can also be used. Some artists use stencils, others paint with oils, some stamp on the canvas, others lay on paper, and still others create images with watercolors and acrylic paints. An artist’s style is the determining factor when it comes to what is applied on the canvas.

Oil painting, also called wet painting, is a type of painting in which the artist applies the paint to the canvas directly. Wet painting is much slower than the drying process, taking several days from start to finish. In order to apply the paint, the canvas must be well moistened with water. There are two basic types of oil painting: a solvent-based oil painting, in which the pigment is soluble in the oil and the brush is used to apply the pigment; a water-based oil painting, in which the pigment is insoluble in the water and the brush is used to apply the pigment.

Other types of painting include airbrush painting, canvas painting, pencil drawing, pop art, watercolor, linseed oil painting, and graffiti art. An artist can use any of the thousands of different kinds of paint available. There are basically two types of paint: oil paints and acrylic paints. Oil paints dry quickly and give good coverage. Acrylic paints dry slowly but give good coverage and they are inexpensive.

Oil paints can be classified into three different categories, the clear, semi-clear, and opaque types. They have different components like the pigment (the pigment that colors the surface), the medium, the carrier, and the binder. The carrier has certain substances that attract the pigment and keep it on the surface of the support. The medium contains certain additives that make the paint stiff or moist when needed. And the binder is responsible for keeping the pigments in suspension.

Different oils have different effects on the quality of the paintings. They either add vibrant shades of grey. They can produce watercolors, oils with very defined colors, or oils that have more vibrant colors. There are also abstract oil paintings, impressionism, and impressionist paintings.

Another type of painting is lyrical abstraction. This kind of painting explores the relationship between form and feelings. The artist focuses on the colors and the texture of the canvas and how he wants his audience to feel. Examples of this type of painting are American Painting, Chapeau, Cubism, Fauvism, Impressionism, Expressionism, Monet, Post-Impressionism, Pre-Raphaelites, Realism, Renaissance, Romanticism, Van Gogh.
